The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) approved MD Laguna Corporation's application to become a PEZA ecozone enterprise.  MD Laguna, located within the Laguna Technopark in Biñan, Laguna, provides state-of-the-art warehousing facilities and related logistic services.  MD Laguna's stockholders include Ayala Corporation and MC Trans International, Inc. (a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan).

19 September

Laguna Technopark, Inc. recently hosted Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and his delegation during his state visit to the Philippines.  Accompanied by his wife Bun Rany, the Prime Minister toured Laguna Technopark and met with its officers led by general manager Bernard Vincent Dy.   Other officials who were present included Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Francisco Atayde, Energy Secretary Mario Tiaoqui, PEZA director general Lilia de Lima and Cambodian Ambassador to the Philippines Ek Sereywath.

Laguna Technopark, Inc. recently welcomed a new locator company in its Biñan site.  Terumo Philippines Corporation, makers of disposable syringes, held opening ceremonies for its new facility.   Capitalized at P1.48 billion, the company is an affiliate of Terumo Corporation of Japan, whose products are marketed in over 150 countries.

Temex Philippines, Inc. a Luxembourgian company engaged in the manufacture of Radio Frequency (RF) devices such as isolators, circulators and tuning capacitors for export to Europe, Korea, Japan and USA recently signed its registration agreement with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).  The firm, the first company from Luxembourg to invest in PEZA, will locate at Laguna Technopark, Inc.'s Special Economic Zone.                                                                                                     

 

1999 RELEASES

30 March

Despite the economic slowdown that gripped the Asian region in 1998, Laguna Technopark continued to be a favored site among overseas and local investors.  The company sold over 20 hectares in the two new phases it opened last year in its Biñan site.

Moreover, in its 1998 performance report, the Philippine Economic Zone Authority said that out of the top 10 new approved and expanded investments last year valued at P30.78 billion, the P14.61 billion, or nearly 50%, came from locators inside the Laguna Technopark.

As one of the country's pioneers in the development of privately-owned industrial estates, Laguna Technopark is working to ensure it retains its firm hold on the industry.  Its flagship project, a 387-hectare site straddling the towns of Sta. Rosa and Biñan in Laguna, has become a fast-growing regional center, which now hosts 81 manufacturers, 60% of which are leading Japanese enterprises, while the rest are Filipino, American and European firms.

25 January

Trilux Electronics and Luminaires, Inc., manufacturers of electronics ballasts and luminaires, acquires 1.13 hectares in Laguna Technopark's phase four.  Trilux president and CEO Roland Rick-Lenze and Managing Director Walter Gimmi signed the Deed of Absolute Sale in simple ceremonies with Laguna Technopark's general manager Jose Eustaquio III and CFO Eduardo Balane.

1998 RELEASES

22 October

Terumo (Phils.) Corp. breaks ground on its 6-hectare site in Laguna Technopark's phase five. The company targets to begin commercial operations by July 2000. An affiliate of Japan-based Terumo Corporation, the firm will manufacture medical supplies including disposable syringes and I.V. catheters in its site. Terumo (Phils.) Corp. is capitalized at P1.5 billion and will employ 150 to 350 staff.

16 October

Laguna Technopark, Inc. launches its Web site together with a promotional CD-ROM and a new corporate brochure.

20 July

NEC Computer Storage Philippines breaks ground on an 8.9-hectare property in Laguna Technopark's Sta. Rosa and Binan site. A subsidiary of Japan-based NEC Corporation, NEC Computer Storage Phils. is constructing a 20,000-square meter plant to manufacture hard disk drives. Company officials announced it will employ 2,500 workers starting next year to man its plant in Laguna Technopark, which will have a production capacity of 5 million 3.5-inch hard disk drives a year.
